Dirt Corps staff has years long experience in critical area management, wetland mitigation, vegetation management, and habitat monitoring. We apply this knowledge in a vertical and peer mentorship model, creating green job pathways in restoration by removing barriers like educational and work experience requirements. We actively manage restoration sites across the Puget Sound area through partnership with King County’s Healthy Lands Project, Green River Coalition, Seattle Public Utilities, Green Seattle Partnership, and the Port of Seattle.
Healthy Lands Project (HeLP)
Dirt Corps is in its second year of working with HeLP (or King County’s Healthy Lands Project). HeLP provides target-species weed control and stewardship on both private and public lands throughout King County. Dirt Corps uses integrated pest management on these sites to increase ecological function and conservation in areas that need it most. Trainees through our adult green jobs training programs also get hands-on restoration training at some of these worksites, learning skills like plant identification, effective control methods, and planting, and expanding their knowledge of ecology, hydrology, climate resiliency, and ecosystem services and benefits.
